We were scheduled to fly from Rotorua in the morning to Queenstown in south island, via Christchurch.
Unfortunately, due to heavy fog, our morning flight from Rotorua was cancelled. We were able to rebook ourselves to an evening flight from Rotorua to Queenstown, via Christchurch. After spending a couple of hours in the tiny Rotorua airport (thankfully, there was a nice restuarant there), we finally left Rotorua at 2 in the afternoon, and landed in Queenstown at around 6pm. Upon reaching Queenstown, my brother-in-law picked us up from the airport and took us to the villa we were all staying in. We were all staying at the Platinum Villas on the outskirts of town. The villas were gorgeous, and had balconies and patios that faced Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables mountains. Staying here was one of the highlights of our trip!
That evening, we took the skyline gondola in Queenstown up a mountain. There was a luge ride on the mountaintop that everyone took turns in.
The views of Queenstown and the surrounding mountains from the top of the hill was outstanding!
There was also a restaurant and a Haka dance show on top but we were out of time. We came back down the gondola, and had take out Indian food from Bombay Palace, in our villa.
Tomorrow is a long day and a much awaited trip to Milford sound!!
