Day 9: Blue Lagoon, and last day in Iceland

Our flight back to the states was in the late afternoon, so we had time to check out of our hotel and head to the Blue lagoon before going to the airport.  While touristy, it should definitely be on every visitor’s must-see list.  The pool area is huge, there are many coves to relax in, a waterfall to go under, silica mud to apply on yourself, and the locker area is pretty sophisticated as well.  The water temperature is well controlled and pleasantly warm, considering it is always slightly chilly outside.

After spending a couple of hours in the pool, we waved it a sad goodbye and headed off towards the airport to return our rental car.  Before we left Iceland, we had to snap one last photo with the common lupine flowers and my trusty Lonely planet book.  I would highly recommend this travel book for anyone interested in doing a road trip in Iceland, as it plans out all the stops on the route in the right sequence, with apt descriptions.
