New Zealand: Day 1: Auckland

We landed in the Auckland airport at around 1:30pm after a 50 hour trip from DC, with two stopovers!  Immigration was pretty smooth, and were were out of the airport and were picked up by our relatives, and went over to their place for some lunch, and relaxation.

In the evening, we went around some of the sights in Auckland.  We first went to Bastion point, which was a nice park sitting on a hilltop with gorgeous views of the Auckland harbor and ocean.

We also went to another lookout along the ocean drive, where there were some Maori artefacts, and a small walkout overlooking the sea.

We were pretty tired after these couple of stops, from our long journey, so we ended the day early.  Our driving tour of North Island starts the next day, so we needed to catch some sleep.  We did not have a hotel for this night, since we were staying with some relatives.
