Our hotel had free breakfast at La Fontana Cuban restaurant, which was right next door. While we never woke up early enough to take advantage of that, we did head there for brunch in the morning. Unfortunately, even though the restaurant has high ratings, we found the breakfast very sad. For one, I was served Eggo Frozen waffles! The coffee was mediocre, and so was the cheese sandwich. I did not want to even try their eggs. Such a disappointment!
After the sad breakfast, we got reach to head to the beach. On the way, I need to eat something to remind myself of good food again, so we stopped by Taquiza, a hip taco spot hidden underneath a beach hostel. They always seemed to be a crowd here, so we expected it to be good, and it did not fail our expectations. They had two veggie tacos, and many veggie sides. We got the truffled corn taco, and the guacamole and chips. Both were really good, although the taco was small and over in two bites!
Now for some beach time!
Since we got to the beach late, we stayed past sunset. Today was a less windy day, and the calm waters were perfect for just lazing around. Eventually, we had to head back, and clean up before dinner.
Dinner today was the highlight of the entire trip! We went to Cleo, a Mediterranean Tapas restaurant (a bit on the pricey side) on Collins Ave. They have an amazing number of vegetarian options, and everything we got was delicious! I would highly recommend making a reservation, since they don’t accept walk ins on weekends until past 9:30pm. It is a bit of a splurge (a dinner for two will run you around $60 without drinks), but definitely worth it. We got two dips (Eggplant, and Red peppers), the Falafel, and Spicy Potatoes. Each item was so tasty, and we gobbled up everything!
Sorry for the low quality pictures…bad lighting.
After the yummy dinner, we were so stuffed! We walked to a nice speakeasy style bar (you will wonder whether you are still in Miami), Employees Only, for a nightcap. We had to sleep early today since our flight out was very early in the morning, out of Fort Lauderdale.
Miami Beach was the perfect weekend getaway, with tons of options for vegetarians. I’ve already been here twice, and look forward to going there again!
